McDonald's in Italy: what to order and what it costs
What is McDonald's like in Italy?
McDonald's opened its first Italian restaurant in 1985. Italy is famous for its coffee bars and pastries, so it's no surprise that the menu here has a real breakfast side, with sweet pastries and fresh-squeezed juice.
Our Italian list has six items across four sections: burgers, meals (Menù), breakfast and sweets, and drinks. It's a short list, but it shows how the menu is built. McDonald's restaurants are mostly run by franchisees, so prices can differ from branch to branch.
How much is a Big Mac in Italy?
A Big Mac on its own (da solo) costs €6.50. The full meal, called the McMenù Big Mac, costs €9.60. That means the fries and drink add €3.10, which is about 48% on top of the burger.
Italian menus use two useful words. Da solo means the item alone. McMenù means the burger, fries and a drink. If you only want the burger, look for da solo on the screen.
What can you get for breakfast?
The Colazione & Dolci section covers pastries and desserts:
- Croissant with cocoa and hazelnut: €1.60
- Chocolate Donut: €2.10
These are the cheapest food items on our Italian list. For comparison, a cornetto at the bar and fast-food operator Chef Express is €2.50 on our lists, so the McDonald's croissant is 90c cheaper. A single scoop of gelato at Cioccolatitaliani is also €2.50.
How much are drinks?
Drinks vary a lot in price:
- Still water (San Benedetto): €1.50
- Fresh-squeezed orange juice (spremuta): €3.90
The juice costs about 2.6 times as much as the water. It's listed as 100% fresh-squeezed orange juice. If you're looking for coffee, note that we don't have McCafé prices on our Italian list yet.
What is the cheapest way to eat?
You can build a simple breakfast or snack from a few items:
- Croissant and water: €3.10
- Donut and fresh orange juice: €6.00
- Big Mac alone: €6.50
- McMenù Big Mac: €9.60
A croissant and water costs less than half of what the Big Mac costs on its own. If you want a light stop, the Colazione & Dolci section is where the value is.
How does McDonald's compare with other Italian chains?
By the middle price of the items we list, McDonald's is the cheapest of the 11 chains we track in Italy, at about €3.00. That figure is pulled down by small items such as water and pastries, so it says more about the range of the menu than about the cost of a meal.
A meal-to-meal comparison is more useful. The McMenù Big Mac costs €9.60, which is exactly what a Whopper costs on its own at Burger King. If you're comparing full meals, remember that a meal adds fries and a drink.
What is not on our Italian list?
Our list is short, so some things aren't here. We don't have prices for McNuggets, McCafé coffee or the Happy Meal. Check the McDonald's app for the current menu before you order. We add items when we can verify them from a dated source.
Do you pay a coperto or tip at McDonald's in Italy?
No. The coperto is a cover charge at sit-down restaurants, usually about €1 to €3 a person, and you shouldn't normally see it at a fast-food counter. Menu prices in Italy already include IVA, which is usually 10% for restaurant food and drink.

What are the alternatives to McDonald's in Italy?
If you want something more Italian for a similar price, try these:
- La Piadineria: a piadina of your choice is €5.58 on our lists, which is 92c less than a Big Mac alone.
- Rossopomodoro: a Margherita pizza is €8.50, and a Marinara is €8.00.
- Burger King: a Whopper is €9.60, and 9 King Nuggets are €6.40.
- Old Wild West: a Chicken Burger is €8.80.

McDonald's doesn't publish one national price list in Italy. We used the fastfoodsmenu.com listing for McDonald's Italia, which is dated 24 August 2026, and fetched it on 8 September 2026. It isn't tied to one restaurant.
