Founded in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia, by Jerry and Janie Murrell as a carry-out burger shop for their five sons — hence the name. Deliberately kept its menu small — burgers, hot dogs, and fries — while offering unlimited free toppings, and became known for hand-cut fries cooked in peanut oil.
