McDonald's in the Netherlands: what to order and what it costs
What is McDonald's like in the Netherlands?
McDonald's opened its first Dutch restaurant in 1971. It's the most widely known chain on our Dutch lists, and it has a truly local item: the McKroket, a burger-style croquette that plays on the Dutch snack-bar classic.
Our Dutch list has 23 items in three sections: burgers, chicken and sides, and desserts and drinks. McDonald's restaurants are mostly run by franchisees, so real prices can differ by branch. Read the figures below as a guide.
How much is a Big Mac in the Netherlands?
A Big Mac costs €7.00 on our list, about $8.00. The Quarter Pounder and the McChicken cost exactly the same, at €7.00 each.

The Cheeseburger is very cheap at €2.30. The Big Mac costs €4.70 more, which is about three times the price.
What is a McKroket?
The McKroket is McDonald's version of the kroket, a crisp, breadcrumbed Dutch croquette with a soft meat filling, served in a bun. It costs €4.75 on our list.
That's a useful comparison with the original. At the Dutch snack-bar chain FEBO, a plain kroket is €3.30, so the McKroket costs €1.45 more. You're paying for the bun and the McDonald's setting.
How much are McNuggets and fries?
McNuggets have a very even price per piece:
- 6 pieces: €3.25, or about 54c each
- 9 pieces: €4.55, or about 51c each
- 20 pieces: €10.35, or about 52c each
So there's little saving from buying a bigger box. Fries (Franse Frietjes) cost €4.45. For comparison, a portion of friet at Loetje is €6.75 on our lists.
How much are drinks and desserts?
A medium Coca-Cola is €4.15, which is more than a Cheeseburger. The source lists a higher price for the same drink, at €5.15, which includes a €1.00 reusable-cup deposit (statiegeld). We list the lower price and leave out the deposit. Other options:

What about the Happy Meal?
A Happy Meal with a Cheeseburger and a toy costs €6.35 on our list. That's €4.05 more than a Cheeseburger alone. A Happy Meal normally comes with a side and a drink, so check the app for what's included.
What can you eat for under €5?
Plenty of items come in below five euros. On our list, these all qualify:

What is not on our Dutch list?
Our list has no breakfast items and no McCafé coffee prices. Check the McDonald's app for those, because the menu changes with the time of day.
Do you pay tax or tip at McDonald's in the Netherlands?
Dutch menu prices include BTW, the value-added tax. Food and non-alcoholic drinks are taxed at 9%. You don't need to tip at McDonald's. For sit-down restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving 5% to 10% is friendly but optional. Read our Dutch eating-out guide for more.

How did we get these prices?
McDonald's doesn't publish one national price list in the Netherlands. We used the fastfoodsmenu.com listing for McDonald's Nederland, which the site dates 8 June 2026, and we read it on 20 September 2026. It isn't tied to one restaurant.
An earlier source, which labelled its figures as modelled estimates, showed a Big Mac at €7.80. We replaced it. Treat the figures as a representative guide, and check the McDonald's app for your local price. Each page shows the date we last verified it, and you can read how we work on our methodology page.
