Founded in 1980 in Decatur, Georgia, originally as T.J. Applebee's Rx for Edibles & Elixirs by Bill and T.J. Palmer, before the name was shortened to Applebee's. Became one of the largest full-service casual-dining chains in the US, built around a neighbourhood bar-and-grill atmosphere rather than fine dining.
