Founded in 1952 in San Antonio, Texas, by George W. Church Sr., who opened a fried-chicken takeout counter directly across the street from the Alamo specifically to compete with a nearby KFC. Built its identity around Texas and Southern-style fried chicken and biscuits, and operates internationally as Texas Chicken outside the Americas.
