Founded in 1971 in London by Italian immigrant brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa, who started out roasting and wholesaling coffee to the catering trade before opening their own coffee shops. Became the UK's largest coffee chain, was bought by hotel group Whitbread in 1995, and sold to Coca-Cola in 2019 for £3.9 billion.
