Founded in 1941 in Amsterdam by Frits and Cor Blaauboer as a modest snack bar. The coin-operated, wall-vending "automatiek" format that made it famous — hot kroketten and frikandellen sold straight from heated glass compartments without a server — was developed later and became one of the most recognisable pieces of Dutch fast-food culture, especially in Amsterdam.
