Founded in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, as Mike's Submarine Shop. A 17-year-old employee named Peter Cancro bought the shop in 1975 with a loan from a family friend and later expanded it into Jersey Mike's Subs, built around fresh-sliced meats and cheeses rather than pre-sliced ingredients.
