Founded in 1960 when brothers Tom and James Monaghan bought a single pizza store in Ypsilanti, Michigan, called DomiNick's; James traded his half-share for a Volkswagen Beetle within a year, leaving Tom sole owner. Renamed Domino's in 1965. Built its identity around fast delivery, epitomised by the "30 minutes or it's free" guarantee that ran from 1973 until it was discontinued in 1993 for safety and legal reasons.
