Founded in 1983 in Glendale, California, by Andrew and Peggy Cherng, building on their existing Panda Inn restaurant to create a faster, mall-food-court-friendly format serving American Chinese cuisine. Became the largest Asian-cuisine restaurant chain in the US, known for dishes like Orange Chicken developed specifically for its own menu rather than drawn from traditional regional Chinese cooking.
